Committee for Democracy in Information Technology

Since 1995, computer scientist Rodrigo Baggio has been setting up Information Technology schools for young people of the Rio de Janeiro favelas. Many enthusiastic volunteers have come forward to give lessons on second hand computers. These schools are a good place for people to talk, share and exchange views which helps avoid crime. The poorest people can use the computers for a symbolic 2 to 4 $ a month; they can acquire the skills they need to find work and have access to modern society.
